Spring Banner Lampshade

I just have to tell you a little story behind my history

of lamp-making before we get started.

Back in college {years & years ago}, I had no money.  So, for

presents for my friends and family I found a way to be creative and make something

for them.  I figured out a way to make lamps out of huge, empty pickle jars that

the snack bar at *-mart would just give to me.  One day, as I was making a lamp,

my husband {boyfriend at the time} came over to my place and thought it was

a fun little project and was impressed with my resourceful use of materials.

 As I was making this one...it has been a very long

time since I have made one, he came in and told me that he knew that he loved

me that day that I was making lamps almost 15 years ago.  I thought it was so

sweet to know that he loves me being creative!  Ok...back to the tutorial...

 I found this jar at my local flea market, spray painted the lid blue and had my hubby drill two holes in the top.

This jar is about 1 foot tall, you can find a lot of fun shapes and sizes of jars.

 Before I embellished it...which I also like it plain and simple.

I bought the lampshade at Target, but you can also

make your own burlap covered lampshade!

 You can buy a lamp making kit pretty much anywhere in the hardware section.

You thread the cord through the little hole and then back up the middle hole.

The kit comes with really good instructions also.

 You split the two wires apart a little bit more {about 3" more}.

 In the instructions, it shows you how to make an Underwriter's Knot.  You have a ribbed and a flat wire and you have to wrap the right one to the right screw on this part, otherwise it doesn't work. 

I tested mine to make sure it worked before I got any further!

 Once I had that done, to make the fixture stable, I hot glued it on the inside.

 Here are a couple of close up shots of the banner part.

I used Canvas Corp, Tattered Angels, Houseof3/Pink Paislee, Glitter, ModPodge,

 American Crafts ribbons & Crystal Stickers.

In this picture, I used a mini canvas shape and twine{both canvas corp} and sprayed it

with Tattered Angels Glitter Mist.  My new favorite thing!!

 This is a side view of the lamp, I am loving it on my entryway table along with all of my Spring-y decor!

 I just had to show that I tied ribbons on the lid and also added some bling around the top edge!

You can fill the jar with a lot of fun and interesting items, I chose a simple little

nest.  Maybe because I can't get enough of them!

So I TRIED to make it rhyme, and the hubs made fun of me?

 He said "Is it supposed to rhyme?" with a questionable look...

I said Yes'! butt head... just kidding...

No' but really I did try... and its darn close enough!

 i USED A Sharpie maker on the canvas material. To hang it I pushed silver thumb

tacks into the wood and through some grosgrain polka dot ribbon.

  I put some cut out triangle polka dot paper behind some of the canvas pennants.

Canvas Family Wreath by Birgit Koopsen

I am excited to be here on Jenn's blog today.

Jenn is so talented, so its so fun to be here on her blog.

I am Jen also from CraftOManiac,

and here is a fun craft I made using some

SUPER CUTE PRODUCTS from Canvas Corp.

 I started with a 11x14 white canvas board that I taped off.

 Then with black acrylic paint I used a stencil brush

and stenciled in the lines with the paint.

Once the paint was dry, I removed the tape and

added some red glitter glue over some of the black stripes.

I added silver thumb tacks to each corner..

I love embellishing and adding dimension and layers.

I just pushed the tacks into the wood.

 I also wrapped some hounds-tooth ribbon

I had around the bottom and tied a knot.

 I used the Canvas Corp "LIVE LAUGH LOVE" scrap paper

and used my Cricut to cut out a large heart,

I then roughed up the edges with scissors.

I mod podged the heart onto the dry canvas.

Next I used one of the DARLING

Canvas Copr. zebra tags, black jute, and silver clothes pin

to again, add more layers and dimension.

I cut out a smaller heart from my Cricut

and added glitter glue and glitter over the glue for a fun effect.

I love the final product and I don't know what it is but it reminds me of

 NO DOUBT'S LAMB collection and line HA HA, I make myself laugh.

It also reminded me of my sissy so I gave it to her and

she was THE HAPPY recipient of this product.

All though it looks Valentines-ish its really not.

However, you can use it for Valentines.

Canvas Ornaments

{This is my post from Under the Table and Dreaming's 6 days of Ornaments last week}

Altered Canvas Ornaments

While I was designing and making them, I thought that the

possibilities are endless on what you can put on the canvas.

You can add pictures, mod podge papers, flowers,

handprints, perfect neighbor/teacher gift and so on!

Supplies Needed:

Paint {Paint Brush}

Small Canvas

Ribbon {3/8" & 1.5"}

Optional: fabric {the Noel one I used fabric}

Glitter balls {from a pick}

Hot glue

Poster Marker

Brooch {I used a brooch for the hanger in the back}

1.  Paint your canvas, let dry.

2.  Use a Poster Marker to write on the canvas

{this is where your creativity can go wild!}

3.  I just cut them off of the stem, I used about 24 balls on each canvas.

I bought these glitter ball picks at Hobby Lobby when they were 1/2 off!

That is the only time I buy anything there!

4.  Hot Glue the thin ribbon around the edge of the canvas, to give it a finished look.

5.  Hot Glue the balls around the canvas {be careful because

I burned my finger really bad doing this step}.

6.  Make your own ruffles!!  Just sew in and out on the bottom of the ribbon

and then pull the thread to gather the ribbon.

I made the black w/white polka dot ruffle using fabric.  Cut a 3 1/4" x 40"

strip of fabric, fold it in half and then sew the edges together.

7.  Hot Glue the ruffle to the back of the canvas.

8.  Attach the brooch, or whatever you use for the hanger, to the back.

I hope you will enjoy this project.

Pillow Collection: Made with Canvas...

I just want to share with you 3 pillow projects that I have made.

{I found the graphics for the Welcome pillow and Chandelier pillow over at The Graphics Fairy blog, you will love her free graphics that you can download!}

This is my painted canvas pillow

{I have houndstooth on the back}.

Jen, from Tatertots and Jello, Quatrefoil stencil would be great to use on a project like this.

I made a template of the diamond pattern and first used a sharpie to mark my lines.  Then I painted the lines in black...the lines are not perfect {I didn't want them to be}.

To get the most out of iron-on paper, I printed what I needed at the same time.

The "Welcome" sign is hot glued to the diamond painted canvas, of course I hot glued the ball fringe, too!

I made this for my sweet friend's {Leslie} birthday present! 

I took it to her and she hung it on her iron wreath stand. 

I thought that her initials on the bottom was a special touch for a present! 

I made the orange fringe out of PAPER!! 

I found a fun piece of scrapbook paper and cut out the shape {Sassafrass Lass}. 

Then I modge podged both sides to give it more of a shiny look & to make it a little more stiff.

I used double sided bias tape and sewed the paper inside the fold.  Super Easy!

Sew the layers together first before you sew the pillow together. 

 I had 3 layers here with the toile, initials and paper trim.

It was also my little sister Janis's birthday also! 

So, here is her present {it is late getting to her, so she will probably see it here first! :)}

You know when you have a great present for someone when you don't want to give it anyway! 

Both of these pillows did that to me!  But, I will be good and get this one in the mail to her...

The Scroll Label is from Rhonna Farrer and I just typed in

"Love at Home". 

You can have any saying you want in there!  The beauty of Photoshop, right!?

I used my 1 3/4" circle punch as a pattern to cut out the toile fabric for my homemade trim.

I also put Fray Check liquid on the edges to keep the fabric from fraying.

Just like the paper trim, sew the circles in the fold of the bias tape!  That's it!! :)

I also made her a barrett, using the rolled satin technique.  Of cource, I had to add a little bling to it!
