Valentine's Day Countdown Calendar

I decided to make a new version of my Valentine's Day Countdown Calendar that I made two years ago {link to the other one}.  This one definitely has more of a Spring-y look to it.  I only wanted to use products I had on hand...so this is what I came up with.

I was inspired by Heather Bailey's Nicey Jane Rose fabric and took those colors into my overall design.  {I also used a little bit of Amy Butler Ikat fabric} The frame is a cheap-o one from Ikea that is about a 20"x20" size, I think it was around $7.  I wrote out "Valentine's Day" and stitched in on some pink felt and then layered fabric, felt and burlap.

 

I used several items from Canvas Corp: lime mini clothespins, white mini envelopes {I trimmed them down an inch} and burlap. As you can see, it is pretty self-explanatory on how to make it. I also used my go-to glue Beacon Fabri-Tac, I can't do anything without that stuff!! I used a small tipped Sharpie to write out the dates on the envelopes.

You can add love notes or special messages to the inside of the envelopes.

Little Valentine Gifts for my Valentine...

I got together with my 3 sisters {& in-law} and Leslie to do a

little Valentine Gift exchange for our Hubby's.

We decided to just give them 5 days worth of little gifts.

In the past, I have done 10 days and even 14 days.

Just a little behind this year...

Each of us made 5 of our little gift that we came up with.

Then we exchanged for us to have one of each.

Janis came up with the Crush theme, but she was sick

last week so I put hers together for her.

 Jess put a couple of packets of Pop Rocks in the bag,

you can't go wrong with that!

I chose the "Nuts" theme.  The funny thing about this was that

I actually had Bill go and buy 5 packs of peanuts.

Now he knows why...:)

 You can be very creative, like Renee did with her "write" for me gift.

 Leslie made this one, the little oranges brand name is "Cuties". 

We have been eating a lot of cuties lately! 

I know my Valentine has enjoyed finding his little gifts in fun places everyday!

Valentine's Day Display...

I wish that I would have done this project earlier since

Valentine's day is on Monday...

I will probably just leave it up for a little while longer.

Spring Decor Projects are on my mind, I am

ready for warmer weather!

This Red Berry wreath has seen better days...I just

will never part with it. :)  One of those favorites of mine!

I made the heart using Canvas Corp Burlap & Canvas shapes.

It was a quick project to do...with American Crafts Thicker letters.

The vertical garland was a fun twist for me,

I normally make garland going horizontal. 

I used a heart punch with Canvas Corp Papers, Beacon Fabric

Tac glue to attach the CC twine and the hearts. 

 I met an amazing scrapbook artist, Nathalie Kalbach, from Germany

and she contributes to a Magazine called ScrapArtZine. 

I found a tutorial in the issue that she gave me on how to do

these flowers {by Tina Schubert}.  The instructions were in

German, but I was able to figure it out with pictures. :)

You just punch out 3 different sizes of circles, pierce a tiny hole

in the middle, place a brad in the middle to hold it together

and then fold/wrinkle up the edges. 

I loved how simple it was to get a great look!!

The bottom flower I made from Canvas Corp's new handmade paper

line, I will definitely be making more of them!!

Front Door...Love

For my Valentine's Day front door decor, I went simple...

This is a Love sign that I bought at HobLob and decided to hang in on the front door.

Last year I had it hanging on my mantle on a wreath.

Sometimes it is just good to have a project that doesn't take anytime to do! :)

Valentine's Day Countdown Calendar

This is a fun way to celebrate and add decor for Valentine's Day by having a countdown calender.  It is an interactive one that has a fun saying and a gift associated with each day on the back.  In this picture it shows on that day that the saying was

"I'm Nuts about You", so you give your Valentine nuts. 

 

I made this by using all Canvas Corp products. {18"x18" burlap frame, red clothespins, twine, canvas shapes, paper, corkstock, mini clothespins}

Attach the clothespins to the edge of the burlap, have the canvas shapes with the paper and corkstock mod podged on hanging by a mini clothespin.

For the top, cut the paper 4"x12" and fold like an accordian and form into a half circle.

Print off numbers and the banner using your computer, or you can use stickers.

Optional:  use a brown ink pad and ink the edges for a vintage look.

 

{that is an 18"x18" Burlap Frame...love that size!}

{Canvas Corp sells thin sheets of Corkstock!  You can stamp on it, mod podge over it...anything you want!}

Valentine's Decor--Entry Table

I got out my Valentine's Day Decor today that I made from last year.

I am sure that I will be adding to this as the days go by!

Looking at this picture, I need to put something on my ledge above the banner!

For Christmas, Bill's parents gave us this picture of the

Bountiful Temple

that we were married in 14 years ago!  Love it!!

 This is a lamp that I bought at Goodwill and spray painted it black. 

I covered the lampshade with burlap last spring{click here for the tutorial}. 

It needed a little color, so I attached a large barrett to it

 Easy, Easy!

 I got this glass bird container for Christmas from my sweet in-laws!
 I love it!

I just dumped some red pom-poms in it for color...and warm fuzzies!

 This is a banner that I made last year out of burlap. 

It was on my banner last year, but it found its way over to the Entryway this year!

Craft Project: "10 days of Valentine's" Swap

Today I hosted a little Valentine's Swap with a couple of my friends.  We all came up with 2 Valentine's Gifts for our hubby's and made 5 of each to swap with each other.  That way we each have 10 days worth of fun Valentine's to hide in our hubby's car, drawer, pockets or wherever.  One of the gal's wasn't able to make it, so I will post her Valentine's later.

Decor: Front Door Part 2 {Day 13}

Here is the Part 2 of my front door decor.  I just finished my rosette heart, it took a while!  My plans are to change the inside of the frame according to the holiday/season.

I used tacky glue on the fabric rosettes and I had to use hot glue on the burlap rosettes.

I had some scrap foam core that I used as the base for the rosettes.  It is about 6 1/2" in size.

Last night on Project Runway, their challenge was to make an outfit out of burlap!  I had to laugh since I have been on a big burlap kick.  I was amazed at what they made, especially with them dying the burlap!

Mantel Decor: Be Mine Banner {Day9}

I love the look of banners, so I thought it would be a perfect addition to my mantel.  Another Burlap project to check off for the week! 

Here is a current picture of the mantel so far...Looking at it now I might have made the banner longer.  The finished size is 29"x11". 

I cut a 36"x13" rectangle.  Then ironed the two long sides to get that crease.  Then I folded it in half and cut a diagonal for the ends.  I then made another crease by bringing in each side just a little to give it the waving banner look.  I also hot glued the creases...I learned my lesson on my previous craft!

I got out the ol' sharpie.  I am not good at using a small paintbrush because I initially thought about painting it.  With the sharpie, I was able to get the look that I wanted.  I just got a little bit of a sharpie smell headache by doing this, but I think that it worked fine.

I had fun designing the flower, I think that baby K might end up wearing one on her head someday soon...

Mantel Decor Day #8: Love Hanging

Today I had only a 30 minute window to make something...so here is a little LOVE hanging.  I just attached it to one of my topiaries on my mantle.

It is starting to look more seasonal...

Y'all probably already know how to make these and make them more efficiently than I did.  I cut several strips of paper 3"x6" and did the fan fold.  The finished size is 6" in diameter.

With my scrapbook adhesive, I attached the ends to each other to form the circle.

I'm sure there are many ways to get the circle from buckling, but I used good ol' glue dots in the middle of the circle and on the burlap.  I also added on both sides a small piece of cardstock to stabilize the fan part, you can't see it when it is up.

UPDATE:  the next morning it buckled up like a cup!  I ended up hot glueing it all together, I should've done that in the first place...live & learn. :)  It is solid now!

I punched a couple of holes in the back to get the jute through & hang it.  Very simple...not fancy, but fun!

I used to work for a scrapbook company called One Heart...One Mind.  I designed and made the large fan hangings out of her new scrapbook paper line for her CHA booth in the Summer of '07.  The owner decided to close her business the next year and go to work for Michael's Craft store in their design department.  It was a fun experience to work for her, I learned a lot!
